For the second year in a row the Santa Run was a great day for all.

Folk flocked to West Craven Sports centre on a freezing cold morning to don their Father Christmas costumes and complete the 5km course

Starting at the Kelbrook Road sports centre were a total of 281, and the route took the scarlet-clad Santas down to the canal towpath heading towards Salterforth, before returning up Kelbrook Road and through the streets of Barnoldswick for the finish at a festive Town Square.

Taking part in the fun run were children aged five up to adults aged 75, and first home was Tom Brewster in a new record time of 17-and-a-half minutes.

Pendle Today have posted some pictures which can be viewed here

And there are some pictures from other Santa Runs around the UK here

The idea is very much to promote the work of the group with a view to recruiting volunteers from the craven area who under the guidance of existing members could set up social and peer support meetings in Skipton. It was stressed though that there would be a need for fundraisers in the craven area to supplement the funds of the group in order to extend its services.

The Open Day will be held at Soroptomist Room in skipton on 1st Oct 2013 between 7pm and 9pm

BARNOLDSWICK pensioner Joan Shaw is well known for her gardening skills, but on July 28th it will be her own crowning glory that promises to turn heads.

For on that day the 77-year-old has volunteered to have her normally grey hair dyed all different shades of red in a bid to raise as much money as possible for Bosom Friends cancer support group and the Help the Heroes charity.

Joan’s granddaughter Sarah Gane, who has just completed a hairdressing course at Nelson and Colne College, will carry out the transformation.
